Unfortunately because as a team we are now stretched to the limit in terms of Clergy numbers, and there are no longer the number of retired clergy out there with availability to take services for us, we are having to make some changes in a few week’s time. On Sunday 29th June 2025, Elaine Simkin will lead a service of the word at St James’. On Wednesday 2nd July, there will be no BCP Service, as that needs a Priest and no one is available. I have tried very hard to get more people involved, and I have a glimmer of hope that we may be able to recruit another retired member of Clergy next year, but it is not simple, as there are now less retired clergy out there, as lower numbers over many years means less retirees, and also there are a lot of unfilled posts in Diocese, and teams short of clergy, so those who are around are usually heavily committed, and are at the end of the day retired, so often don’t want to work every week.
