Worship



We will have an Service of Holy Communion for Advent Sunday at 9.30 AM at St James, it will be led by Rev'd Dr Malcolm Wearing

Toy Service


The Children’s Society are again asking for gifts of simple toiletries such as toothpaste, toothbrush’s , shower gel etc. There still many thousands of “Away from Children” & these gifts at Christmas do let them know they are not forgotten & people do care.
Sarah Lodge which is safe housing for mothers & their young children are very appreciative of small gifts at Christmas. As soon as the actual ages are known we will let everyone know.
Please can you support these worthy causes this Christmas.   

Family Film night 14th December


St James Primary School PTFA and St James Church, Daisy Hill present … The Grinch … our festive community movie night.  Arrive at 6pm for a 6:15pm start on Saturday 14th December.  All children will receive a free hot dog, drink, bag of popcorn on arrival and a gift from Santa.  Mulled wine, tea, coffee, hot chocolate and soft drinks will be available to purchase, along with hot dogs and mince pies. The School Christmas raffle will be drawn in the interval and tickets will be available to buy on the night.   Film tickets £7.50 per child accompanying adult £1.  Children attending St James Primary School can buy tickets through School Money.  Community advance tickets available from Church and can be paid via card or cash.  Cash is preferred on the night.




St John’s Wingates Band Concert


There will be a Concert "A Wingates Christmas" performed by the Wingates Brass Band

Tuesday 10th December at 8.00pm.  (Doors open 7.30pm)

Tickets: Adults £10 Under 16s Free

Includes Refreshment

Christmas Fair


Our Christmas Fair will take place on Saturday 7th December 2024, from 10.00 AM to 1.00PM.  Please support this event if you possibly can.

Anyone who has collected things for the sale can you please bring them to church as soon as possible.



Team Retreat


The 2025 team retreat will take place at Foxhill on the weekend of 16th to 18th May 2025.  Please keep the date, more details to follow.



Study Group


Dates for the next few study groups are:

15th Dec

All at 6.00PM, at Rev'd Dr Wearing's house in Over Hulton, everyone is welcome

Reengange social group 


The charity Reengage is hosting monthly social groups at the John Holt Community Centre.  It will be held on the last Wednesday of each month 12:30-2:30. The group aims to bring friendship and companionship to older adults in the community.


Each month there will be mixed games including indoor bowls, skittles and cards. There are complimentary hot drinks, and biscuits, and plenty of time to socialise and meet new friends. The group is friendly and led by our wonderful volunteers who take time to chat with the attendees.

TALKIN' TABLES - Conquering Loneliness one Table at a Time!


Another new group is opening, this time at St John's Wingates  The two events each week will be:


The group at St John’s Wingates is on a Wednesday from 10.30AM to 11.30 AM, starting next Wednesday (10th January).

The other group  meets every Tuesday from 10 am to 11 am at Thyme for Tea, 96 Church Street, Westhoughton BL5 3RZ.

IGNITE YOUTH (The new name for Team Youth Church)


Young people from across the team in Year 6 and above are welcome to attend this event which is held monthly at St John's Church on a Saturday evening. Those children who are thinking about being Confirmed in the autumn this year are especially invited and strongly encouraged to come. (Ignite Youth meetings will form part of the preparation for Confirmation.)
