Worship

We will have Service of Holy Communion Sunday led by Revd Dr Malcolm Wearing at 9.30 AM at St James.  

Wiggle Worship on Wednesday at 9.00 AM

We will have our regular Book of Common Prayer Communion Service on Wednesday at 10.30 AM

Beannie Hats

CALLING ALL KNITTERS!  It’s September again & we hope to knit Beanie Hats for Operation Christmas Child who add them to the Christmas Boxes which are sent all over the world for the many disadvantaged children.  So please could you knit one or even two by November to add to these boxes.   

Bus Trip - Liverpool

A bus trip is going form church to Liverpool on 17th October 2026.  Liverpool is a really interesting city which has been developed so much over the last 15 years, with many attractions along the waterfront, and a huge shopping centre.  The two cathedrals are also both stunning in their own way, please note that due to events, the Anglican Cathedral will close at 2 and the Roman Catholic Cathedral will only open at 2, so Anglian first, then wander down Hope St and the Catholic one will be open!

Sign-up sheet in church, please sign up as soon as possible or drop us an email so we have an idea of numbers and can get the coach booked.

St Barts Autumn Fair

St Barts are holding an autumn fair, also on 17th October 2026, see flyer, so if you are not going to Liverpool, please pop in and support St Barts.

Childrens’ Society Boxes.

A reminder to all owners of a Children’s Society Collecting Box that Graham Burrows is happy to receive them during the month of August so that they can be emptied and the contents counted and sent on to the Children’s Society.

Also, if there is anybody who would like to start supporting the Children’s Society by having a Collecting Box then please see Graham at some time in church, or if you don’t know Graham ask Malcolm or a church Warden and they will point him out.

Urban Outreach Grub Tub

Urban Outreach who serve all the Bolton area with food parcels unfortunately are running low on stocks & are finding it difficult to fulfill this service as they would wish. If everyone at St James could remember to bring even just one thing regularly it would be a great help & they could continue their work with those in desperate need. PLEASE HELP!   

Inclusive Church Network

I am pleased to let you know that following a decision taken last year by the PCC, we have now been admitted to the Inclusive Church Network.  The mission statement of the network is:

“We believe in inclusive church – a church which celebrates and affirms every person and does not discriminate.

We will continue to challenge the church where it continues to discriminate against people on grounds of disability, economic power, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, learning disability, mental health, neurodiversity, or sexuality.

We believe in a Church which welcomes and serves all people in the name of Jesus Christ; which is scripturally faithful; which seeks to proclaim the Gospel afresh for each generation; and which, in the power of the Holy Spirit, allows all people to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Jesus Christ.”

St James Church 200 Club

The 200 club renewal is due from 1st June.

This year we raised £1200 for Church which is a great achievement.

Reengage Social Group 

The charity Reengage is hosting monthly social groups at the John Holt Community Centre.  It will be held on the last Wednesday of each month 12:30-2:30. The group aims to bring friendship and companionship to older adults in the community.

Each month there will be mixed games including indoor bowls, skittles and cards. There are complimentary hot drinks, and biscuits, and plenty of time to socialise and meet new friends. The group is friendly and led by our wonderful volunteers who take time to chat with the attendees.

St John’s Wingates Church on a Wednesday from 10.30am - 11.30am.

Capri, Market St , Westhoughton, on a Tuesday from 10am - 11am.
